Modelling the causal relationship between energy consumption and GDP in New Zealand, Australia, India, Indonesia, The Philippines and Thailand

چکیده
A number of industrialized and developing countries agreed to the terms of the Kyoto protocol to conserve energy and reduce emissions. The close relationship between energy consumption and real GDP growth suggests that energy conservation policies are likely to affect real GDP growth. In this paper, the possible impact of energy conservation policies on the New Zealand economy is examined and compared with Australia and several Asian economies. Causality between energy consumption and GDP in New Zealand is investigated as is the causal relationship between GDP and various disaggregate energy data (coal, natural gas, electricity and oil). Based on the energy data used, it appears that energy conservation policies may not have significant impacts on real GDP growth in industrialized countries such as New Zealand and Australia compared to some Asian economies. © 2003 IMACS. The relationship between energy consumption, energy prices and economic growth: time series evidence from Asian developing countries q
This paper estimates the causal relationships between energy consumption and income for India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand, using cointegration and error-correction modelling techniques. The results indicate that, in the short-run, unidirectional Granger causality runs from energy to income for India and Indonesia, while bidirectional Granger causality runs from energy to income for...

The paper examines the causal relationship between foreign direct investment (FDI) and economic growth for selected Asian economies covering the period from 1981-2008. The study has been done for China, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Using Granger-causality, it has been observed that for the countries like China, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka,...
متن کاملOn The Relationship between Energy Consumption and Real GDP on Iran: An Application of VEC Mode
This paper examines the causal relationship between energy use and real GDP for the period 1967-2002 in Iran. The results of Phillips- Perron test indicate that the real GDP and the four categories of energy, i.e. coal, oil, gas, and hydroelectric energy are integrated of order one. Besides, the Johansen — Juselius maximum likelihood co- integration tests imply the existence of Granger causalit...

The objective of this study is to explore the presence of a causal relationship between stock market development and economic growth. This study aims to explore this relationship in the nine Newly Industrialized Countries (NIC’s): Brazil, China, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, South Africa, Thailand and Turkey. 2005 nominal GDP values are used as a proxy for economic growth, and market ca...
